Flooring Installation in New Braunfels, TX

Most flooring complaints are not about the flooring. They are about what is underneath it. A slab that is out of level by more than the manufacturer allows will telegraph through large format tile and will make rigid plank click and flex.

What is included

What a Flooring Project Covers

Subfloor preparation

Grinding high spots, filling low spots and levelling to the tolerance the chosen product requires.

Tile

Porcelain, ceramic and stone, including large format, which is far less forgiving of a poor substrate.

Hardwood

Solid and engineered, installed with the movement gaps and acclimatisation the material needs.

Luxury vinyl plank

Practical in family homes and rentals, and genuinely durable once the substrate is right.

Trim and transitions

Baseboards, thresholds and the height changes between rooms and materials.

Signs it is time

When This Work Is Worth Doing

  • Tile that sounds hollow when tapped, or grout lines that keep cracking
  • Planks separating at the seams or lifting at the edges of a room
  • Visible dips or high spots when light rakes across the floor
  • Squeaks and movement underfoot on a framed floor
  • Water damage at a dishwasher, refrigerator line or bathroom threshold

How it runs

The Process

  1. 01

    Assess the substrate

Check slab flatness and moisture, or the condition of the framed subfloor.

  2. 02

    Written scope

Including prep work, which is the line item most often left out of cheap flooring quotes.

  3. 03

    Remove and prepare

Old flooring out, substrate ground, patched and levelled.

  4. 04

    Install

Set to the manufacturer's pattern, spacing and expansion requirements.

  5. 05

    Finish

Trim, transitions, and sealing where the material requires it.

Options

Ways to Approach It

Porcelain tile

Best for wet areas and heavy traffic. Hard underfoot and unforgiving of an uneven substrate.

Engineered hardwood

The practical way to get real wood over a slab in this climate, since it is more stable than solid timber.

Luxury vinyl plank

Waterproof, forgiving, and the usual answer for households with children and animals.

Local context

Flooring in New Braunfels

Almost all New Braunfels homes are slab-on-grade, which makes slab flatness and moisture the two governing factors. Expansive clay soils in Comal County move with the seasons, and slabs move with them, so a floor installed without expansion allowance in a long run will eventually show it. Homes near the rivers occasionally have moisture coming up through the slab, which is worth testing for before laying anything moisture sensitive. Solid hardwood over an untested slab is the most common expensive mistake we are asked to correct.

What moves the price

Pricing Factors

  • How much levelling the substrate needs, which is only fully known once the old floor is up
  • Material choice and format, since large format tile costs more to install
  • Pattern: herringbone and diagonal layouts add labour and waste
  • Removing existing material, especially old thinset or glued-down product
  • How many transitions and how much trim the layout requires

Every estimate is itemised, with allowances written out so you can see which figures are fixed and which depend on selections.

Why Norton

Why New Braunfels Homeowners Choose Norton

The scope is written down before work starts

Most remodeling disputes come from a vague scope, not from bad craftsmanship. Every project begins with an itemised written estimate covering what is included, what is excluded, which materials are allowed for, and what happens if something unexpected appears behind a wall. You approve it before demolition, and changes are priced in writing as they arise.

One team, one point of contact

You are not passed between a salesperson, a coordinator, and three separate trades who each blame the last. The same people who quote the work run the work, which means the person answering your questions has actually been inside your house and knows what is behind the drywall.

Built for Hill Country homes

Comal County construction has specifics: expansive clay soils that move with the wet and dry cycle, slab-on-grade foundations that complicate plumbing reroutes, older homes near the river with additions that were never permitted, and newer builds where the original finish carpentry was rushed. Knowing which you are dealing with changes the plan.

Questions

Questions About Flooring

Can I put hardwood over a slab?

Engineered hardwood, yes, with the right underlayment and a moisture test first. Solid hardwood over slab in this climate is risky and we will usually recommend against it.

Why does my new tile sound hollow?

Usually incomplete mortar coverage or an uneven substrate that left voids. It is a prep failure, not a tile failure, and it eventually shows up as cracked grout or a loose tile.

Do you have to remove the old flooring?

Almost always. Installing over the old floor raises the height at every doorway and hides whatever problem is underneath.

How long does a whole-house floor take?

For an average home, usually one to two weeks including prep, and the house has to be largely cleared while it happens.
